Safety on board

ANEK LINES policy aims at continuously ensuring top quality of services provided, safe, comfortable and reliable service to passengers, and healthy and safe working conditions for its employees. At the same time, the Company aims at safeguarding environmental protection, as well as developing and implementing relevant operational procedures.

Since 1995, the Company applies the Safety Management System based on the International Safety Management System (ISM Code), which is in accordance with all international and national regulations, rules and directives, relating to the safety of human life and property at sea and the protection of the environment.

Furthermore, since 2004, a System for Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS Code) was established for the prevention and handling of terrorist attacks.

The Company’s vessels comply and are certified by the higher Safety Systems and are equipped with the state-of-the-art navigation and safety equipment, as well as firefighting and rescue systems, thus ensuring highest possible level of safety and top service for passengers and crew, as well as the protection of the environment.

In addition, ANEK LINES vessels are certified in accordance with the provisions of the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC, 2006) on the rights of seafarers in social and labour matters:

– the right to a safe workplace in accordance with international safety standards

– decent living conditions (accommodation, leisure and food)

– fair terms of employment

– protection of health, medical care, welfare and other forms of social protection

Quality on board

The modern and high standard fleet of ANEK LINES is certified by the International Quality Systems according to ISO 9001:2008, as well as the HACCP Health and Safety Management System for preparing and serving meals, according to ISO 22000.

The ISO System is a Quality Assessment System for services. Quality referring to the sum of the attributes and characteristics of the service and the ability of the service to satisfy expressed or implied needs. The HACCP System is a Food Safety Management System that determines and monitors hazards (biological, chemical, or natural) which may relate to food safety or render food unfit for consumption.

The ISO & HACCP systems ensure that all processes are planned, including shipping, transport of passengers and vehicles, preparation, and arrangement of meals – snacks, functioning of the bar, provision of hotel services and the organisation of events, carried out under controlled and approved conditions, so that the results will satisfy the demands of the clients and abide by Greek and European Law.

Crew

Implementing International Conventions and Agreements (MLC 2006 and STCW 1995) on crew quality (specialization, qualification, experience etc.), our company has managed to maintain a top position in international and domestic shipping.

Through the implementation of preventative measures for the avoidance of specific hazards, continuous training and updating of personnel together with special seminars on safety as well as drills and exercises to simulate and address potential hazards, the company aims at and succeeds in developing safety measures so that crew may successfully handle demanding, hazardous and emergency situations.

As a result of the above, it is worth noting that in July of 2006 ANEK LINES “OLYMPIC CHAMPION” was declared the European champion in a survey carried out by ADAC, the German automobile club. The survey was conducted in accordance with international standards, on thirty (30) passenger/RO ferries servicing routes in Europe, and focused on safety issues, status of state-of-the-art equipment and crew training.
