The Italian Classification Society (RINA), which monitors and certifies ANEK’s ships is an internationally famous and acknowledged marine organization, member of IACS (International Association of Classification Societies), which consists of only 10 acknowledged classification societies from approximately 50 operating worldwide. Its main object is the monitoring and issue of certificates concerning the ships’ class, seaworthiness, safety & security, plus audits concerning the application of ISM/ISPS International Codes by the company and its ships, and issue of the corresponding certificates.
The ships of ANEK LINES are certified according to the requirements of the International Maritime Labour Convention, MLC 2006, which consolidates 68 existing conventions of International Labour Organization(ILO) and supplements the IMO’s (International Maritime, Organization ) regulatory regime.
This Convention focuses on seafarers’ employment and social rights:
- the right to a safe and secure workplace as per safety standards
- decent working and living conditions on board for all seafarers (accommodation, recreational facilities, food)
- the right to fair terms of employment
- the right of health protection, medical care, welfare measures and other forms of social protection.
