Milestones in ΑΝΕΚ Lines history :

April 10, 1967, in Chania. A few hundreds of Cretans (traders, free-lancers, pensioners, farmers) , following a proposal by the Association of Economists of the Chania Prefecture and the contribution and generous support of Reverent Irineos Galanakis, Metropolitan of Kissamos and Selinos at the time, implement their bold idea to found the first multi-shareholder shipping company worldwide that would carry out sea transports with modern, comfortable and decent ships. ΑΝΕΚ LINES is a reality!

On September 9, 1970, F/B KYDON sails into Souda port and ΑΝΕΚ LINES wins the confidence of all. ΑΝΕΚ LINES makes a dynamic entrance in Greek coastal shipping.
In 1973, F/B's CANDIA and RETHYMNO are purchased and start operating the Heraklion-Piraeus route daily.
In 1978, the company purchases F/B KRITI. Daily routes operated by ΑΝΕΚ LINES ships are already a reality, linking the two major ports of Crete to mainland Greece.
In 1987, the company’s fleet is enhanced with the most modern vessel at the time, F/B APTERA, serving the Chania-Piraeus route.
Creative ideas bring rapid development. A maritime link between Greece and Italy is opened, while at the same time the blue-yellow company logo is placed on all its ships. In 1989, F/B’s "LISSOS" and "LATO" are dynamically introduced on routes to Italy, creating new prospects for the Patras-Ancona route, and F/B "KYDON" is sold.
In 1992, F/B "EL. VENIZELOS", ANEK LINES flagship -the biggest and most luxurious ship in the Mediterranean- starts serving the route to Northern Italy. It is followed by F/B "TALOS" which starts operating the same route.
In 1997, "KRITI Ι" and "KRITI ΙΙ" starts serving the Patras-Ancona route.
In 1998, a new era dawns for ΑΝΕΚ LINES with the purchase of new ships and the initial public offering for the company’s stocks in the Athens Stock Exchange. "F/B SOFOKLES V." starts operating the route to Northern Italy and F/B’s "PREVELIS" and "ARKADI" join the fleet, following the merger with Rethymniaki.
In 2000, "F/B LEFKA ORI" starts serving the route to Northern Italy followed by the newly-constructed H/S/F "OLYMPIC CHAMPION" on the Patras-Ancona route.
In 2001, another newly-constructed vessel, H/S/F "HELLENIC SPIRIT" starts serving the route to Northern Italy.
In 2005 the new Patras-Venice route is added to the route to Northern Italy. In the same year, a dream of decades is fulfilled. Construction of the company building is completed as well as the relocation of administrative services to the company-owned, functional establishment in Chania, thus enhancing ANEK LINES’ prestige and the services provided.
In 2006, ADAC, the German Automobile Association, awards the first European prize for best ferry boat to H/S/F OLYMPIC CHAMPION, thus confirming the ship’s compliance to international safety standards, as regards technical equipment and the highly trained staff.
In February 2007, the company's latest modern establishment in Piraeus is inaugurated, housing the Directorate of Commercial Exploitation, the Directorate of Technical Services and the Piraeus main agency.
In April 2008, the P/S-F/S "Preveli" entered service on the Piraeus-Paros-Naxos-Ios-Santorini line. In July 2008 the P/S-F/S "LISSOS" entered service between Piraeus and Chios-Mytilini. In September the luxury, state-of-the-art P/S-F/S "ELYROS", the flagship of the entire ANEK fleet, entered service between Piraeus and Chania, constituting a substantial upgrade of the shipping connection between Crete and mainland Greece. In December, ANEK was awarded a prize as "The Best Passenger Line of the Year 2008" during the 5th Greek Shipping Awards ceremony hosted by Lloyd’s List.
We pursue our course towards a dynamic future, with a highly trained and experienced staff, both on land and at sea, with large and efficient investments as well as a modern services network. Everything is carefully planned and realized within the framework of an efficient strategy that capitalizes, to the greatest extent possible, on the company’s means and resources.
